Pollsb homepage finally goes up

If you follow this blog you know we’ve been working on a new homepage for Pollsb for quite some time. We almost launched it in July, but then decided to take a moment and rethink some areas, rework some glitches, and improve other areas on the site. So today we’re proud to present you with not just a new homepage, but a whole new look for Pollsb, with a refreshed look for every internal page on the site and added functionalities.

We consider this new version a public beta, and want to encourage you, dear Pollsb community, to help us map all the remaining bugs and glitches. Go, explore the site, and if you find any problem, we’d love to hear about it. To report any bugs, email us at: info [at] pollsb [dot] com.

To learn more about new areas of the homepage, and what we were thinking when we created them, visit our past blog posts about the new homepage.

Obsessive Pollsters

Monday, July 28th, 2008

Work on the new homepage is still underway. Red-eyed, scruffy developers crowd the water cooler as the race enters its last phase. We’ve been playing with the monster for a week now, and we like it a lot. It will certainly make an impace on the site.

One dilemma we still have, and wish to share with you, is the Obsessive Pollsters dilemma: as you can see, the bottom of our new homepage is dedicated to top users. It includes the following weekly charts:

  • Top Voters: users who voted on most polls that week.
  • Top commentators: users who commented the most that week.
  • Popular pollsters: users who have created the most popular polls that week.
  • Obsessive pollsters: users who have created the most polls that week.

We’re not 100% sure about that last term. What do you think? Should we keep calling it Obsessive pollsters? Or should we change it to something else? got any specific ideas? Let us know.

Vote and comment on our poll:

Pollsb’s Spirit

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2008

It’s crunch time here. Will the team make it with a ready for QA homepage on Thursday?  Who will win the office pool? (we placed bets on the date in which the new homepage will be ready). In the meantime, here’s another great homepage feature: the Pollsb spirit:

Spirit

The spirit section is a graphical interpretation of the most discussed topics of that week on Pollsb. So, for example, the more political polls get posted, the bigger the politics chunk of the pie chart will be. The drop down menu will also allow you to see the pie chart for different demographics of the general voter population on Pollsb. It’ll show you the most dominant age group in the site, as well as where most voters come from, and what’s the gender segmentation for any given week.
