New buddy icon Feature

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

We are proud to introduce a brand new feature here at pollsb: it’s a way to see the people who voted on a poll, before even voting on it! It’ll help you follow your friends around the site, see who votes on what, and who’s active at the moment. Yep, all that without even having to visit the results page. Isn’t that cool? Here’s how it looks:

Brand new features

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

It’s an exciting Tuesday morning here at the Polls Boutique labs. We’re all tired and overworked, but we couldn’t be more satisfied: a brand new version of the site is online, and it includes some features that are bound to bring happiness to the lives of pollsters all over the world.

The new features include:

  • Safe browsing: from now on, as a default, you won’t be seeing adult materials on polls boutique, unless you visit your user page and specifically choose to do so by clicking on our new Adult Content button.

Adult content button

  • New Categories: we’ve reorganized the topical poll categories on the site. From now on, when posting a poll, users must choose at least one and up to three categories from a list. This makes browsing categories much more accurate and fun!

New poll categories

  • Block User Option: if you can’t stand someone’s polls, just visit their user page and click “Block this user” and poof! their polls won’t bother you anymore.
  • Private Poll Option: make your poll private, so only people you invite can see it.

There’s much more to come. So hang on, and enjoy the pollsb ride.

How to get customer feedback using a poll

Tuesday, June 3rd, 2008

Using a Polls Boutique poll is a great way to get feedback from customers and people you work with. Just setup a poll and send it to your client and/or peer. You can also embed the poll on your company’s website or intranet. It’s a great way to get instant feedback on your service.

Here’s a good example of using a poll for instant feedback.

The Polls Boutique advanced pollsters program

Sunday, June 1st, 2008

We’re seriously considering starting a new program that will turn a few prolific Polls Boutique users into our editorial team. Those selected will be emailed with news stories (in topics they’re interested in) and will be invited to post relevant polls.

As a first step, we’re interested to know which of you will be interested in joining such a program. We posted a poll about it.

The Social Poll

Tuesday, May 20th, 2008

The social poll is a drastically different concept than that of the traditional opinion poll.

While both the social poll and the opinion poll try to generate or predict, a result from a controlled, specific target group, the social poll is so much more than a result shown in percentages, or a predicted outcome of an election.

The social poll is about the social interaction that can flourish around polls, around questions and answers, the building blocks of dialogue. It’s about the interaction that people instinctively create when they’re faced with questions and are voicing their opinions.

Poll results

The social poll isn’t just about the bottom line. It’s also about individuals and their opinions. It’s the capability to show both the macro and the micro of a question, the individual opinion within the mass.

At Polls Boutique, we try and embrace this social interaction: on polls, on results, on a specific person’s opinion. We put it at the top of our priorities. And while we do give our users the chance to generate interesting opinion polls and results, we also get excited about each individual choice and comment, as they complicate the picture and generate something better than just a result.

Polls Boutique sticker

A friend sent us this picture of polls boutique’s sticker on one of those Village Voice plastic newsstands in New York. Woohoo! Someone cares enough to show us some street love!

And then we had an idea: Why don’t we invite our users to send us pictures of their free polls boutique stickers? We would love to see where people stick those stickers, and would even like to post the pictures on our blog.

Wanna join in on the fun? Here’s what you do:

1. You get your free polls boutique stickers (just email your mailing address to freesticker@pollsb.com and your stickers will arrive in the mail, free of charge).

2. Stick your stickers somewhere good (but please, keep it legal and don’t deface other’s property).

3. Take a picture of the sticker, preferably with you standing in the shot and giving us a thumbs up.

4. Send the picture to us at freesticker@pollsb.com.

We’ll post your picture, clearing your path to Polls Boutique fame.

You know you can get free stickers

Cnet’s Webware likes Polls Boutique

Thursday, May 1st, 2008

Polls Boutique, which is a play on words from the 1989 Beastie Boys album, is a free polling service that’s great for creating simple polls with statistical depth and a great sense of community.” Writes Webware writer, Josh Lowensohn.

“Polls Boutique lets you build and deploy a poll to your blog or social networking profile quickly and easily. What makes it notable is that you can add all sorts of media to your polls like photos, audio and video clips. It’s also got some really great statistical analysis that lets you see the make-up of your voters, both in gender and age. There are also options to drill down by specific age group, geographical location, and even astrological sign (we’re not counting votes from Sagittarius voters in the poll below–sorry).”
